style='font-size:12.0pt'>George Mason University's second annual <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>Summer Institute for U.S.-Mexico Border Studies</span></b>
provides students access to regional issues. Through academic coursework,
lectures, internships and site visits, students will explore trade,
immigration, cross- border dispute resolution and border security between the <st1:country-region><st1:place>U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region>
and <st1:country-region><st1:place>Mexico</st1:place></st1:country-region>.

style='font-size:12.0pt'>The Summer Institute on Border Studies integrates
internships, presentations by various specialists and site visits on both sides
of the border. During the program, students will have an unparalleled
opportunity to immerse themselves in this unique border area that includes <st1:place><st1:City>Las
Cruces</st1:City>, <st1:State>New Mexico</st1:State></st1:place>, <st1:place><st1:City>El
Paso</st1:City>, <st1:State>Texas</st1:State></st1:place>, Cd. Juárez, and <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Chihuahua</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType>City</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, Chih. </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><u1:p><font size=3 color=black face="Times New Roman"><span
style='font-size:12.0pt'>Site visits will include the Mexican Consulate in <st1:City><st1:place>El
Paso</st1:place></st1:City>, the U.S. Consulate in <st1:place>Juarez</st1:place>,
the El Paso Border Patrol Headquarters, several maquiladoras, border research
institutes, indigenous organizations, and offices dealing with immigration. The
presentations will cover topics such as border demographics, an overview of the
region as an economic integrated trade zone, security, identity, border
literature and art, the labor movement on the border, health, immigration, and
NAFTA. Weekly discussions integrate local, national and international
politics with specific topics related to the border region</span></font></p>

style='font-size:12.0pt'>Students will be led by faculty director, Nancy
Oretskin, JD, Co-Director of the <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>US-Mexico</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName>Conflict</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName>Resolution</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType>Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> and professor at NM State
Univ. in the <st1:place><st1:PlaceType>College</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName>Business
Administration</st1:PlaceName></st1:place> and Economics. She teaches
classes in Business Law, Mediation, and Negotiation and Conflict
Resolution. </span></font><u1:p></u1:p></p>
