/><br /> TORONTO, June 21 /CNW/ - The Canadian Television Fund (CTF) is
pleased to<br />announce it will support 19 Aboriginal-language
Productions, and 10<br />French-language Productions Outside Quebec (FLPOQ)
in the first round of<br />funding, through its Special Initiatives funding
stream for 2007-2008.<br /> The successful Aboriginal-language
applications are from New Brunswick,<br />Saskatchewan, British Columbia
and Quebec, including inter-provincial<br />co-productions from
Nunavut/Ontario and Nunavut/Montreal. Thirteen<br />documentaries, three
Variety and Performing Arts projects and three Children<br />and Youth
productions will provide 61 hours of new, original programming.<br /> To
date, the successful FLPOQ applications are from New Brunswick,<br
/>Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. Seven documentary projects
were<br />selected for funding, along with one continuing series from each
of the<br />following genres: Drama, Variety and Performing Arts, and
Children and Youth.<br />They represent 51 hours of new, original
programming. The FLPOQ stream is<br />still accepting applications for
2007-08 funding. The final closing date for<br />eligible FLPOQ
applications is September 6, 2007.<br /> "Productions funded
through the Aboriginal-language and French-language<br />Production Outside
Quebec Special Initiatives tell unique stories that are an<br />important
part of Canadian history and culture," said CTF President Valerie<br
/>Creighton. "We were impressed with the quality of the submissions,
and are<br />proud to fund television shows that lend a voice to
communities that are often<br />under-represented in Canadian
broadcasting."<br /> The CTF allocates funding to eligible Canadian
productions through its<br />Broadcaster Performance Envelopes (BPEs) and
its Special Initiatives streams.<br />Funding for Special Initiatives
include Aboriginal-language Production,<br />French-language Production
Outside Quebec, Versioning, and Development. In<br />2007-2008,
French-language Production Outside Quebec has a total budget of<br />$8.39
million, and Aboriginal-language Production has a budget of $2.9<br
