Taking it a little further back - Greek -
corde (F. 'rope') is nearly always explained as < chordam, chorde (Gr.) gut,
dried gut as in 'catgut', string,  (cf sausage)

PLUS ( L-S):
-ileos [or eileos] - intestinal obstruction
-eile^don (eile^)/ile^don - by twisting or coiling round
-eilo^  - shut in, prevented from flowing away

AND:
- sumpileo^ - force together [like felt]: of the intestines, to be obstructed
