Thank you, Nath!   That explains David Beckham's odd tattoo.  For those of
you who didn't read about this (and why should you) he had his wife's name
tattooed in Devanagari on his arm, then found the papers laughed at it when
he returned, since it read "Vhictoria".

Nice to know there's a reason!
