Adult literacy and language levels in the classroom

I think Geoffrey Williams has done some research in this area. I know his PhD
was literacy pedagogy with very young children and I think it included
parents. I'll find references at home and e-mail them tomorrow. His research
was done from a Systemic Functional Linguistic framework.
