CHECKing GEMs

Does anyone know if it is possible to get CHECK to look at GEM markers and verify the spelling of user-determined GemCodes, in the same way as one can programme in new dependent tiers and acceptable codes on them? I've been playing around with my depadd file and it doesn't seem to work.

I'd be grateful for any bright ideas.
