The second Katharine G. Butler Symposium on Child Language will be held
March 5-6, 2004 at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort, Clearwater, Florida.
The symposium is jointly sponsored by The Specialty Board on Child Language
and Special Interest Division 1: Language Learning and Education of the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Speakers and their topics
include: David K. Dickinson, Associate Professor of Language and Literacy,
Boston College, The Central Role of Language in Early Literacy Development;
Jeff Gilger, Professor of Communication Disorders and Child Development,
California State University at Los Angeles, Genes, Development, and the
Atypical Brain; C. Addison Stone, Professor of Education, University of
Michigan, The Role of Language in Adults' Scaffolding of Children's
Learning; and Walt Wolfram, William C. Friday Distinguished Professor, North
Carolina State University, The Other Side of Diversity: Promoting Dialect
Awareness. The registration fee includes two dinners and two continental
breakfasts. The deadline for early registration is January 5, 2004.
