Re AAE, there's a 2002 film that uses the dialect in ways that raises
consciousness non-pedantically, indeed with humor. Though I'm not an AAVE
speaker, it seems to me the film's use is authentic; if not, I'd like to
learn so. Malibu's Most Wanted is about a white protagonist who 'thinks he's
black', a problem for his father running for governor of California, who
hires some SAE-monodialectal African American actors to help resolve the
problem. We watch them study up on the dialect, pragmatics, etc.
