recording & DVD camera equiptment

Hello,

I am looking to videotape parent-child (1-year-old) book-reading 
conversations and wondered if people could recommend some good equipment 
to do this (tape and transcribe).  I would like to record the 
conversations, transcribe, and analyze dialogue as well as gestures. 

I checked the archives but found a posting for this back in 1999 and 
hoped someone could recommend more recent equipment.
