50%/100% Researcher Position

Junior (MA) and/or Senior (PhD) researcher level

in the field of the Learning Sciences

specializing in discourse/interactional linguistics and/or science  
education/learning and/or multi-media/IT and learning with a strong  
focus on the multilingual/multi-modal dimensions of knowledge  
construction (Project: CODI-SCILE-A)



Full-time and/or part-time (40h/week and/or 20h/week)



Planned starting time: November 2008 (end of contract October 2011)



Contributing to the UL's Priority "Building Excellence in Education",  
the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education  
(LSHASE) hosts the Unit for Sociocultural Research on Learning and  
Development with the group DICA-lab being particularly active in the  
field of medial, plurilingual and multi-modal learning.

The project "Competences for organizing discourse-in-interaction &  
science learning" (CODI-SCILE-A) specifically focuses on scientific  
knowledge construction by children (age 4 - 8) as discourse-in- 
interaction practices, features and formats with regard to the multi- 
modal, multi-medial and multi-lingual quality of resources deployed  
and taken up by the learners.

The project team is looking for a highly motivated, internationally  
experienced researcher (MA-level and/or PhD-level) in the field of the  
learning sciences with a proven record as regards the integration, set- 
up and/or management of data-driven scientific projects. Experiences  
with the creative-/media-industries (e.g., interface design, learning  
media) and/or schooling institutions an asset.



The successful candidate/s hold/s a relevant degree (MA-level or  
doctorate (PhD)) in one of the following fields, relevant to the  
project: educational sciences, (multi-modal/multi-medial)  
communication and information technology, interactional studies,  
learning (including human/machine), applied linguistics, science  
learning, activity/socio-cultural theory.

Substantial, theoretically grounded methodological skills as regards  
the (analytical/technical) handling of developmental/interactional  
data are required, prior experiences in collecting and integrating  
situated data into corpora-/data-treatment-systems are an asset.

Experiences in working with development (language/s, resources, socio- 
cognitive dimensions, activity dimensions) in a specific domain (e.g.,  
science) or a specific age group (e.g., pre-primary/primary) represent  
an advantage.



The candidate(s) will join the project CODI-SCILE-A (Prof. Dr. Max,  
Ass.-Prof. Dr. Ziegler) within the DICA-lab working group of the Unit  
for Sociocultural Research on Learning and Development (Research Unit  
LCM. Language, Culture, Media and Identities, http://www.lcmi.uni.lu; www.dica-lab.org 
).


As the candidate/s will be working with different types of data  
covering an array of languages and modalities, she/he has excellent  
command of at least two of the following languages: German and/or  
French/English (written and spoken), Luxembourgish and/or a further  
Romance language an asset. Advanced level of using learning platforms  
and other interactional IT-/medial devices an asset. Excellent   self- 
management skills, ability and willingness to engage into active team- 
management a prerequisite, intercultural, technical and  
interdisciplinary awareness as well as a motivation to join a  
challenging environment within a trilingual, international and young  
University are prerequisites for this position.
