LANGUAGE ACQUISITION: A JOURNAL OF DEVELOPMENTAL LINGUISTICS
is pleased to make the following announcements

NEW SECTION: BRIEF ARTICLES
Edited by Colin Phillips and Jeffrey Lidz

Language Acquisition announces that the Squibs and Replies section
will now be called Brief Articles. Brief Articles must report original
empirical findings, major theoretical advances or crucial developments
that warrant rapid communication to the developmental linguistics
community. As in the main section of the journal, papers on all areas
of language acquisition are welcome and will be selected on the basis
of sound argumentation, theoretical relevance, and methodological
rigor.
A priority of the Brief Articles editors is to ensure a rapid
turnaround from submission to review to acceptance. Because
developments in language acquisition research come quickly, we believe
it is imperative for articles to spend as short a time as possible in
the review process. Authors who are unsure of the appropriateness of
their manuscript for the Brief Articles section may contact the Brief
Articles editors directly for advice
(colin {at} umd {dot} edu; jlidz {at} umd {dot} edu).
We anticipate that a Brief Article will fill no more than 10
journal pages and we encourage submissions of less than 15 manuscript
pages, in addition to a mandatory brief abstract. Authors may choose
to submit Brief Articles anonymously or not. Although inclusion of
experimental materials is optional in the submitted manuscript, we
recommend that published articles make their materials available for
review on the world wide web. Authors may submit either a URL or a
supplementary document along with their submitted manuscript, if they
so choose.

NEW PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSIONS
All new submissions to Language Acquisition will use Manuscript
Central, an automated web-based application designed to ease
submission, reviewing, and editing procedures. The site is easy to use
and will help with our goals of reducing processing time from
submission to review, decision, and publication.

Go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/language to set up your
account. There you will also find our Aims and Scope, and Instructions
for Authors, by clicking on the Instructions and Forms link under
'Resources'. Please follow the guidelines of the Language Acquisition
Style Sheet in preparing your submission. The Style Sheet is available
at: http://www.languageacquisition.org/StyleSheet.html.
