Dear Info-CHILDES,

Leonid has written a web-based version of CLAN called WebCLAN.
This facility runs off a link that can be found right near the top of
the CHILDES home page. The link is the second one in the right column
and it is called WebCLAN.
To run WebCLAN, just go through these steps.
1. Click on the link that takes you to the WebCLAN page.
2. Select a corpus you wish to analyze. Select the files you wish to
analyze or simply enter *.cha.
3. Choose a CLAN program, such as MLU or FREQ.
4. Add the additional switches such as +s, +t, +u that you would
normally use with this command.

I think this way of running CLAN is particularly useful for students
who are conducting class projects, since it saves them the hassle of
downloading the raw data files. I would be happy to receive input
regarding this new function. However, I should add that we are, in
parallel, working on a more user-friendly XQuery-based web interface
that would allow you to compose these search strings through dialogs.
