POSITION OPENING – DOCTORAL STUDENT OR POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

The English Linguistics Group at the University of Kaiserslautern
currently has one opening for a doctoral student or postdoctoral
fellow in the area of language development. Current research in the
group includes first language development, second language
development, bilingualism, and the relationship between language and
cognition. More information about the group and its research is at

The candidate will be expected to develop his/her own research leading
to a dissertation, German Habilitation, and/or academic publications
in one of the research areas mentioned above. In addition, s/he will
be expected to participate in ongoing projects and teach up to two
courses per semester (total 3 hours per week).

The candidate must have completed a degree in a relevant area such as
linguistics or developmental psychology, ideally with a focus on
language development, before taking up the position (i.e., Masters or
equivalent for the doctoral position; PhD or equivalent for the
postdoctoral position). Also required is a very good knowledge of
English and ideally at least a working knowledge of German.

Salary is on the German scale TV-L E13, 50%. Some additional funds are
available to cover travel costs for presentation at conferences and
attendance at courses off site (e.g., summer schools). The position is
for three years, with possible extension as appropriate. The earliest
starting date is March 1, 2011.

The University of Kaiserslautern is seeking to increase the proportion
