The Language and Literacy Development in Diverse Contexts Lab in the
Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Temple
University has an opening for a Research Scientist.  The Research
Scientist will take part in the coordination and implementation of
research projects that focus on the language and literacy abilities of
Spanish-English bilingual children.  The individual will also be
responsible for writing manuscripts for publication and collaborating
in the writing of grant applications to secure additional funding. The
incumbent will serve as liaison to community agencies, school
districts and other universities to develop and maintain linkages
between Temple University and the community. The Research Scientist
will supervise activities performed by students and staff in the
lab.

Current research projects include studies of bilingual children’s
language and literacy development; the development of an assessment
instrument for bilingual preschoolers; the development of a culturally
relevant, book reading project for Latina mothers and their children;
and a randomized controlled trial of a preschool intervention.

Required Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is speech-language pathology, psychology,
education or related field; a Ph.D. is preferred. Three years
experience in conducting research with young children and families and/
or in classrooms.  An equivalent combination of education and
experience may be considered.  Bilingual (Spanish-English) and
supervisory experience preferred.
