  *Job description:* 

A fully funded 3-year PhD position is available from February 1st 2013 at 
the Center for Child Language, Institute of Language and Communication, 
University of Southern Denmark. 

The Center is seeking a candidate with a strong background in statistics 
and preferably with some additional background in psychology, linguistics 
or related fields. The successful applicant will work on a project which 
aims to analyse several datasets from cross sectional and longitudinal 
studies on language development in Danish children with measurements on 
several language dimensions across several thousands of children. The 
overall aim of the project is to find subgroups of children with similar 
patterns in language development, which can then be used to help train 
teachers and other relevant professionals in supporting language 
development in an individualized manner. A large ongoing randomized 
intervention study with six intervention and two control groups allows the 
investigation of the predictive value of the subgroups found with respect 
to intervention effects. 

The project will require the application of regression models for 
longitudinal data, latent class models, growth curves modes and 
combinations of these models. Experience with some of these models is hence 
an advantage. The applicant should have a Master’s degree in statistics, 
mathematics, psychology or a related field. 

The successful applicant will be supervised by Professor Dorthe Bleses, 
Center for Child Language, University of Southern Denmark, and Professor 
Werner Vach, Clinical Epidemiology Group, University of Freiburg, Germany. 
He/she will be part of an active research group with interests in 
linguistics, psychology and statistics.

A PhD Research Fellowship is a 3-year position. Employment stops 
automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the Fellowship is not 
allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
