“Language acquisition”

The Institut de Linguistique et Phonétique générales et appliquées (ILPGA)
has an opening position for a linguist at the Assistant/Associate Professor
level, with tenure, in the field of language acquisition

The position is a permanent one: assistant/associate professors (maîtres de
conférences) may be later promoted to Full Professor level, but are assured
of lifetime employment. 

 

French citizenship is not a prerequisite. French candidates are required to
have the CNU qualification in the 7th section (linguistics). Foreign
candidates can obtain equivalence subject to certain conditions (see

The candidate is expected to have training in linguistics from the
undergraduate level to the Ph.D. Knowledge on application fields will be
valued. Good computer skills are required.

Teaching

The future colleague will be teaching both at the undergraduate (licence)
and graduate (master) levels. For the undergraduate level he/she will be
involved in courses of the main curriculum and optional courses of the
bachelor degree in linguistics.

At the master level, the assistant/associate professor will contribute to
the course on language acquisition theories, to specialized courses (with a
seminar on his/her research field) or to courses shared with other
universities (like, for example, the training of school teachers). The
research seminar will also concern trainees in school teaching, students in
speech therapy or who wish to become specialists in young children’s special
education .

Teaching will be primarily in French


 


Research


The candidate will join the language acquisition research program of the
Recherche sur le français contemporain research team, even if he/she is not
expected to work on French. An interactionist or socio-pragmatic orientation
and research on multimedia oral or written data will be appreciated. The
candidate will show a strong interest in one of the following fields: 

*	Oral or written language acquisition of young children with a link
to education, literacy or to atypical development
*	Typical or atypical development of non verbal communication as a
condition for linguistic development
*	Typical or atypical development of syntax and/or morphology
*	Typical or atypical development of semantics or the lexicon
*	Cross linguistic approaches to language acquisition

 


Additional activities


The future colleague will be expected to take over pedagogical
responsibilities in the Bachelor degree program. He/she will be also be
involved in the inter-university collaborations at the master level.
