(Elena)) Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2013 09:32:54 +0000 Subject: Workshop on Adjective Acquisition: Call for papers Message-ID: Call for papers: international workshop on the Acquisition of Adjectives Across Languages Location: Utrecht University (The Netherlands) Dates: November 28-29, 2013 Cross-linguistic studies of adjective acquisition are crucial to our understanding of the relation between language and cognition, since the adjective category is not universal and reveals a lot of cross-linguistic variation. However, relatively little attention has been given to the acquisition of the adjective category in languages beyond English and to cross-linguistic comparisons in this domain. This workshop aims to bring together experts in the field of adjective learning from different countries - who rarely meet due to being geographically scattered - and thereby stimulate collaborative projects in this area. We invite abstracts for 20-minute talks (plus 10 min. discussion) on all aspects of adjective acquisition (e.g. semantics, morphology, syntax, pragmatics) in typical and atypical, monolingual and bilingual, first and second language acquisition. Papers on cross-linguistic comparisons are particularly welcome. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words (excl. references) and should be submitted as e-mail attachments (MS Word, rtf) to Elena Tribushinina (e.tribushinina at uu.nl). Confirmed invited speakers: Wolfgang Dressler (Austrian Academy of Sciences) Asifa Majid (MPI Nijmegen and Radboud University Nijmegen) Lynne Murphy (University of Sussex) Dorit Ravid (Tel Aviv University) Maria Voeikova (Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg) Sandra Waxman (Northwestern University) Fred Weerman (University of Amsterdam) Important dates: Deadline for abstract submission: August 15, 2013 Notification of acceptance: September 1, 2013 Workshop dates: November 28-29, 2013 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Info-CHILDES" group. As we discussed yesterday I need to mention that all responses were single word: How does this sound for the beginning of the results section: Production of the verb in response to the experimenter's prompt, either on its own (e.g. Meek!) or within a construction (Meek Doggie/ He can meek), was taken as evidence of pragmatic flexibility. However only one child produced a verb in a multiword construction (i.e. He can jump) with all other responses being single word utterances. In-Reply-To: <0f17b9f6-fe77-4033-b634-c61d6a672628@googlegroups.com> Message-ID: Dear Lynne, I don't believe any files have been removed. Instead there has been some renaming. You seem to have an older version of the database manual, but even the current version is unclear. So, I rewrote this section and renamed some audio files. I removed the phrase "boys" from the untranscribed recordings to make the numerical sequence clearer. I then revised the description to read as follows: This directory contains transcripts from MacWhinney’s diary study of the development of his two sons, Ross and Mark. Ross was born on December 25, 1977 and Mark was born on November 19, 1979. Ross was recorded between the ages of 0;6 and 8;0 and Mark was recorded between 0;7 and 5;6. Because the investigator is also the boys’ father, these data represent a fairly natural record of the family’s interactions. Many recordings are not yet transcribed. Untranscribed recordings include 1-10 when Ross was quite young and those after tape 90 when Ross was 5;6 and Mark was 4;5. There is also a set of 12 untranscribed recordings from Mark between the ages of 3;6 and 6;0. The 12 files specifically targeted at collecting data from Mark begin in March 1982, when Mark is 1;4. However, there is little speech from this period with most of the separate Mark data beginning after October 1982, when Mark is 1;11. All these untranscribed recordings are in the /unlinked folder on the server. There is also a file (Ross01) that chronicles Ross’s very early development. -- Brian MacWhinney On Jun 18, 2013, at 1:30 PM, Lynne Murphy wrote: > Hello, I'm hoping someone can provide some info about a mismatch between the manual and the database. We downloaded everything today--manual and files, so they should be the most current version. Perhaps the right version of the db manual isn't up or the file-name table in it hasn't been updated? The listing of files in the manual goes up to 121 then restarts at 1 for the Mark files. The ones in the db go up to 90b2. I'd basically like to be able to match the old file numbers I have to the new file names. So, if there's an updated table of file numbers and dates, I'd be very grateful for it. I could make one myself, but if it's been done... I then revised the description to read as follows: This directory contains transcripts from MacWhinney?s diary study of the development of his two sons, Ross and Mark. Ross was born on December 25, 1977 and Mark was born on November 19, 1979. Ross was recorded between the ages of 0;6 and 8;0 and Mark was recorded between 0;7 and 5;6. Because the investigator is also the boys? father, these data represent a fairly natural record of the family?s interactions. However, there is little speech from this period with most of the separate Mark data begin?ning after October 1982, when Mark is 1;11. All these untranscribed recordings are in the /unlinked folder on the server. There is also a file (Ross01) that chronicles Ross?s very early development.
