<SPAN style="TEXT-TRANSFORM: uppercase">MSc in Human Communication Sciences
Research</SPAN>.</P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><BR>This
full-time (1 yr) and part-time (2 yrs) course provides an opportunity for Speech
and Language Therapists to explore the research implications of their clinical
work, and for Linguists and Psychologists to apply their theoretical and
analytical knowledge to the study of communication disorders.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><BR>Human Communication Sciences
is a multidisciplinary area which focuses on typical and atypical communication.
It includes linguistics, phonetics, psychology, speech and language pathology
and cognitive neuroscience, and is approached from the multiple perspectives of
behavioural, cognitive and medical science. The Department of Human
Communication Sciences at <st1:place>Sheffield</st1:place> is one of the leading
departments of its kind in the
<st1:country-region><st1:place>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region>, and offers
research and teaching expertise in all these areas. It is also recognised by the
ESRC as a research training outlet.<BR> <BR>The course aims to provide:
<BR>- a sound understanding of current research in human communication
sciences<BR>- training in research methods and design, and use of a range of
analytical approaches<BR>- a foundation for PhD research<BR> <BR>COURSE
CONTENT:<BR>Core Modules:<BR> Current Research in Human
Communication Sciences; Research Methods; Methods in Clinical Linguistics;
Critical Analysis of Research Literature; Professional Skills; ICT Applications;
Research Project (student’s own choice of topic)<BR>Option
modules:<BR> Developmental Communication Disorders; Acquired
Communication Disorders. Further options are available in a range of areas
including Health, Psychology and Linguistics.<BR> <BR>TEACHING
METHODS:<BR>Mainly in small group tutorials and workshops to ensure that every
student has the chance to take an active part. Students are encouraged to take
advantage of the wide range of excellent clinical observation facilities
available.<BR> <BR>ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:<BR>A good BA or BSc degree
(1<SUP>st</SUP> class, upper 2<SUP>nd</SUP> or equivalent) in a relevant
discipline such as Speech and Language Therapy, Linguistics or
Psychology.<BR> <BR><SPAN
