10.0pt'>DCAL (Deaf studies, cognition and language) is a major new research
centre funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, </span></font><font
size=2><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt'>UK</span></font><font
size=2><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt'>. The Centre comprises a
series of thematically linked research projects on sign language linguistics,
language processing, face-to-face communication, language development, atypical
sign language, and the deaf individual and the community. The Centre will be
launched in January 2006 and over the first five years of its existence we will
establish a team of 15-20 researchers, research students and support staff. The
following positions are available to start in January 2006 or as soon as
possible thereafter. Additional posts and studentships will be advertised in

and oversight of research activities across all five research groups in the
Centre. The Senior Researcher will be a member of the Centre Management team.
The person appointed to this post will come from one of the contributory
disciplines of the Centre, and will have substantial post-doctoral experience
in sign language and deaf studies research. You will also have opportunities to
develop your own lines of research, with support in applying for research
grants; contribute to the research activities of one or more of the research
