Hello Ruth,<div><br></div><div>I am not an infant researcher as you are, but I have several concerns that I have with all commercially available products that are targeted at parents, and that concern relates less to children, as you suggest, and more to parental attitudes.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Because we can't see the research-base used from the website, and baby-sign is known to be under-researched, the intervention itself cannot be evaluated (at least based on the website). But they do advocate using normative charts, which I question. </div>
<div><br></div><div>My main concern is that parents could either feel a) a false sense of security that they are serving their child's language development when it may not be effective (which as I've said is not possible to evaluate based on the website), or b) that they are being given information about development that may lead them to question the "normalcy" of their own child, when language development, particularly in the first 3 years, is full of so much individual difference. </div>
