             Spanish Applied Linguistics (SAL):
          http://granny.lang.uiuc.edu/sip/dept/sal/
is a journal devoted to theory and research on the
acquisition and use of Spanish as a nonnative and bilingual
language. SAL is published twice a year in December and
June by the Department of Spanish Italian and Portuguese of
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.

    The special volume Cognitive Processing in Spanish
Bilinguals will feature papers that concern the Spanish
bilingual and which involve the theoretical and modelling
approaches and the research methodologies used in cognitive
science. The volume will consist of five articles and one
introduction.

    Studies based on data from populations other than
Spanish/English bilinguals, such as Basque/Spanish,
Catalan/Spanish and Quechua/Spanish, are encouraged.

    Proposals for contributions are welcome in all research
areas related to cognitive processing and
psycholinguistics, including but not limited to the
following:

    Memory
    Third language acquisition
    Literacy
    Code-switching
    Metalinguistic awareness
    Input processing
    Lexical retrieval

    The typical submission will be 20 pages in length,
excluding tables, charts and bibliography. SAL adheres to
the guidelines established in the Publication Manual of the
APA.

    For paper submission, e-mail an abstract of no more
than one page to sanzc at gusun.georgetown.edu. You may send
the abstract as the text of your e-mail message or as an
attachment (no WordPerfect format, please). Confirmation
will be sent via e-mail within two days following receipt
of the abstract.

    The abstract should include the following information:
   Title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), electronic
        addess, postal address, and phone number(s).

         DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS JUNE 1st, 1999.
