papers should contact the AILASA99 Organizing Committe at

    Presentations may be made in English, Spanish or
Portuguese. Offers of papers should be accompanied by a
brief abstract (100 words).

    The AILASA99 conference will be held in conjunction
with the 1999 biennial conference of the Carribean Studies
Association of Australia and an extensive programme of film
and musical activities is planned for the week july 5-10.

    Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia
(population 3.5 million) and is one of the world's most
vibrant multicultural centres. It is also noted for its
remarkable Victorian architecture and impressive public
gardens and parks. Melbourne also boasts an active Hispanic
and Latin American cultural life.
