School of Modern Languages, University of Southampton

Applications are invited from candidates with a research specialism in
the linguistic study of French and/or Spanish. Preference may be given
to a specialist in Psycho- or Sociolinguistics. The post is a full-time
permanent one and may be filled at any point on the Lecturer A scale. In
accordance with its commitment to equal opportunities, the School
particularly encourages applications from women, from members of ethnic
minority groups and from people with disabilities.

The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the School's
interdisciplinary research grouping in linguistic studies, and to
participate fully in the continuing development of our distinctive
curriculum in Linguistic Studies, at both undergraduate and postgraduate
level. The undergraduate curriculum enables students to follow a
'Linguistic Studies' pathway throughout their degree programme, and
postgraduate courses currently on offer include an MA in Applied
Linguistics for Language Teaching, an MA in Multilingualism, an MA in
English Language Teaching and an MA in Applied Linguistics (Research
Training). Within these programmes, contribution to teaching in some of
the following areas will be expected: linguistic theory,
psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, translation
studies, intercultural communication.
