Job Description:
Research Assistant position within the project "Subjects, topics 
and focus of attention in spoken language," a project funded by a 
grant to Maite Taboada from the Social Sciences and Humanities 
Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The project aims to annotate 
a large number of conversations in English and Spanish according 
to Centering Theory. For more information on the project, please

The successful applicant will demonstrate an interest in one or 
more of the following areas: discourse analysis, anaphora, 
Centering Theory, corpus linguistics, Spanish. Although the 
position is designed to develop research skills, priority will be 
given to candidates with background in discourse analysis, 
anaphora and computational linguistics, and with experience in 
corpus annotation. Fluency in Spanish is essential. The student 
is free to pursue his or her own thesis research in other areas, 
but there are also opportunities to combine thesis/dissertation 
work with the RA work.

Other Details:
The initial research stipend is for one year at the current 
maximum levels set by SSHRC: CAD$12,000 (MA) or CAD$15,000 (PhD), 
renewable depending on performance and funding availability. The 
successful applicant is also eligible for travel funding and 
additional forms of support available to SFU students, including 
teaching assistantships and marker positions. For more
