Spanish Applied Linguistics. Associate Professor or advanced 
Assistant Professor.

The Department of Hispanic Studies at Texas A&M University 
invites applications in the field of Spanish Applied Linguistics, 
beginning September 1, 2009. We seek a colleague with expertise 
in one or more of the following areas: Spanish-English 
bilingualism, Spanish as a second and/or heritage language, and 
Spanish pedagogy at the university level.
Ancillary interests might include computational linguistics, 
corpus linguistics, or sociolinguistics.

Candidates must have: a Ph.D. in Spanish Applied linguistics, 
Hispanic linguistics, or other relevant field; at least 
near-native fluency in Spanish; the capacity to teach and 
supervise students at all levels, with evidence of strong 
organizational skills. Experience with CALL or coordinating 
language courses preferred. Applications will be considered until 
the position is filled, but initial interviews will be conducted 
at the MLA meeting in San Francisco, December 27-30, 2008. 
Interactive conference interviews may also be arranged.

A flagship institution, Texas A&M is an AAU, Research Intensive 
University. The 2005 NACUBO Endowment Study ranks Texas A&M 
University and Foundations as ninth among all U.S. institutions

Current enrollment is about 48,000. The Sterling Evans Library 
provides extensive technological and professional support for 
research and there are important collections of Cervantes and 
Colonial Mexico in our Special Collections Library. The College 
of Liberal Arts has 6000 majors in 13 departments and places 
special emphasis on development of diversity, 
internationalization and national research visibility of its 
faculty. The Department is in its fourth year as an independent, 
Ph.D.-grant unit with more than 20 full-time faculty, 174 
undergraduate majors and 42 graduate students. It houses the 
Anuario de Estudios Cervantinos, Cine y, Comparative Linguistics 
Bibliography, and Hispanic Poetry Review. We offer a teaching 
load of 2-2 and provide generous research incentives through 
multiple sources such as the Glasscock Humanities Center, the 
Vice President for Research Program for Enhancement of Scholarly 
Activities and support for competitive grant development, 
including possibility of internal release time. We expect 
publications in nationally and internationally recognized, 
refereed presses and journals.

College Station is the center of a metropolitan area with a 
population of approximately 190,000 with relatively low cost of 
living, affordable housing and ranked public schools. Minorities
