2 Doctoral Research Fellowships

2 POSITIONS AS DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (SKO/post code
1017) within the project “Translation and Reception of Literature
and Film from/into Hispanic Contexts” (supervised by Cecilia
Alvstad and Jeroen Vandaele) are available at the Department of
Literature, Area Studies and European Languages.

1 doctoral fellowship for the subproject “Translation and
Reception of Latin American Literature”, supervised by Dr.
Cecilia Alvstad.

1 doctoral fellowship for the subproject “Translation and
Reception of Foreign Repertoires in Franco’s Spain”, supervised
by Dr. Jeroen Vandaele.

As part of the application candidates are asked to define a
project (max. 5 pages) in relation to one (or both) of the
subprojects. Students holding a MA degree in Spanish are
encouraged to apply but MA students from other relevant
disciplines will also be taken into consideration. In Alvstad’s
project the main emphasis is on translation and reception of
Latin American literature in Norway but doctoral candidates can
also work with other, preferably Scandinavian, target cultures.
Preferred target languages are Norwegian, Danish or Swedish.
Source languages: Spanish and/or Portuguese. Vandaele’s preferred
source languages are French, English and Dutch. For further
details, contact the project supervisors.

All four – fellows and supervisors – will work in close
collaboration. The fellows are full members of the Faculty of
Humanities and will be stimulated to participate in international
doctoral schools and conferences.

Candidates who are accepted must participate in the Faculty of
Humanities’ researcher education programme (cf. regulations and
supplementary provisions for the faculty’s researcher education)
and must also engage in the designated research activities on a
100 percent basis. The designated aim of the project is to
complete a doctoral dissertation to be defended at a public
disputation for the Ph.D.-degree.

Requirements:

· A 5 year Master degree, or equivalent, in an area relevant to
the topic of the doctoral dissertation.

The positions are available for a period of three years. The
positions must be taken up by 1. October 2009

The successful candidates are expected to affiliate with the
existing research milieu or network and to contribute to the
further development of this.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on
the quality of the project description and on the assumed
academic and personal ability on the part of the candidates to
complete the dissertation within the given time frame. The
short-listed candidates may be called for an interview at the
University of Oslo.

Guidelines for appointments to research fellowships at the
Faculty of Humanities may be obtained at
