Especialidad:
Análisis del discurso

Lenguas: Inglés y,
preferiblemente, también español.

Descripción

The Project "Public Discourse:
Persuasive and Interpretative Strategies" (GRADUN), which is part of
the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of
Navarra (Pamplona, Spain), is looking to recruit full-time Research
Fellows with a strong commitment to international research on
Discourse Analysis.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Discourse is omnipresent. In the public sphere it serves strategies
of persuasion and legitimation. Therefore, strategies of
interpretation are of the utmost importance. Yet, available methods
and traditions of analysis and interpretation often start from a
rather negative, skeptical, relativistic, deconstructionist
perspective. What this project aims at, then, is:

1) the
development of a comprehensive analytical tool integrating insights
from philology, philosophy, linguistic pragmatics, discourse studies
and studies of journalism into a coherent interdisciplinary
methodology;

2) the development of a specific focus on
quasi-'grammatical' aspects of meaning construction in discourse;

3) and the application of the above to actual instances of
language use in the public sphere, in particular (but not exclusively)
in the media.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Candidates
are required to hold a PhD with a doctoral thesis in the field(s)
involved in the project (see below "Areas of expertise").

Candidates should have a (very) high competency in English.
Knowledge of Spanish is not compulsory, but the candidate's competency
or willingness to learn this language will be considered an asset.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Discourse Analysis (with a
linguistic orientation); Discourse(s) of public relevance (analysis of
media, political, legal and/or institutional discourse)

OBJECTIVES

The successful candidate(s):

1)
will build up a corpus of actual instances of language use in the
public sphere. The corpus will focus on issues related to
Globalization, Human Rights and Interculturality, with a special
emphasis on the definition and implications of Social Innovation;

2) will conduct analytical research on the corpus mentioned
above, following linguistic-discursive methodologies and aiming at the
description of the ideology/ideologies underlying discourse;

3) will publish the results in 2/3 articles (international
peer-reviewed journals) or in a monographic book (international
publishing house).

HOW TO APPLY

Interested
candidates should provide the following documentation:

-cover letter
-CV (with complete contact details)
-workplan stating methodology, objectives, and expected results
(max. 3 pages)
-complete contact details (name, title, mail and
telephone) for three referees

All documentation should be
submitted via email with a clear indication of the project of interest
(Public Discourse-GRADUN) in the subject line to
