/><b>Descripción</b><br /><p>The International Symposium "Evaluation
in media discourse: Rhetoric and intercultural perspectives" addresses
a nuclear issue within GRADUN research: the theory and analysis of
media discourse.<br /><br />More specifically, this Symposium will
focus on the limits and the systematization of linguistic evaluation.
In spite of the valuable research already done within this field,
evaluation still needs to be clearly delimited and analyzed from a
systematic perspective. Therefore this Symposium includes, on the one
hand, theoretical contributions on the heterogeneous and polyhedric
field of evaluation. In particular, a number of speakers will try to
test, for example, the heuristic capacity of Appraisal Theory by means
of its application to the analysis of real instances pertaining to
several media genre, while other will focus on the role of emotion in
persuasive discourse. On the other hand, the program includes papers
that aim to describe concrete linguistic manifestations of
subjectivity (modality, evaluative lexicon, discursive polyphony,
etc.), which usually have an argumentative function. These
descriptions will be applied mainly to Spanish and English, or to the
contrast between both languages.<br /><br />Registration form and
