Description

Descripción

The already present cultural and linguistic diversity of the
Iberian Peninsula has been enriched over the last decades by the
variety of languages, cultures and representations of reality brought
by new waves of immigrants arriving into the Iberian territories. This
diversity has given rise to a kaleidoscope of languages and cultures
that have transformed the social reality of the Iberian territories,
with unforeseen effects in a wide range of environments: family,
education, institutional and businesses, among others.

Correspondingly, Iberian languages and cultures have become part of
a global and interconnected world, contributing thus to the enrichment
of its linguistic and cultural diversity in the age of
transnationalities.

The Iberian Peninsula has become –and
is becoming– more multilingual, more multicultural and also more
complex. This phenomenon has enormous consequences in the languages,
the literature, the arts and all other kinds of cultural expression,
while, at the same time, has produced a change of paradigm in the
study of the societies and their cultural manifestations.

The side effects of the current economic recession felt in the
territories of the Iberian Peninsula represent a challenge in the
management of this diversity. In this area, critical reflection about
these societies is thus urgently needed.

The XVIth Forum
for Iberian Studies will present an opportunity to analyse and discuss
these current topics from different perspectives, in which the study
of the diversity will be common denominator:
- Multilingualism
and language diversity
- Languages in contact and language
variation
- Language ideologies and language attitudes
-
Language planning and policies
- Language acquisition, teaching
and learning
- Translation, interpreting and mediation
-
Socio-pragmatic comparative studies
- Transforming cultures
- Trans-cultural belonging, multiple and complex belongings,
construction of identities
- Literature and multiculturalism
- Migrant writing

The abstracts of between 200 and 250
words, should be written in English (preferably) or in any other
peninsular language and must be sent before 10th January 2014 to
fis@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk. They must include the full name of the author,
the academic affiliation and the paper’s title. In case of any doubt
or query, please contact us at the same email address.
<br
