/><p>Language Change and Innovation<br />Motivation – Manifestations
– Stages<br /> <br />The Graduate School Language and Literature
Munich- Class of Language (previously called LIPP) is organising its
21st symposium, which will offer a platform for a synchronically and
diachronically oriented treatment of the motivation, the phenomena and
the stages of linguistic innovation. The symposium will be held from
July 2nd until 4th 2014 at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in
Munich.<br /> <br />The title “Linguistic Innovation” is
understood in the sense of processes occurring during different stages
of language change, such as grammaticalisation, lexicalisation,
morphological innovation (paradigmatic levelling, analogy, etc.) and
reanalysis.<br /> <br />The symposium will offer treatment and
discussion of mechanisms and types of language change with respect to
their motivation, which should include both language-internal
(language economy, rhetorical efficiency, pragmatic aspects) and
language-external factors (language contact, dialect mixture,
migration as well as other sociological contexts favouring language
change).<br /> <br />You are cordially invited to submit papers on the
above mentioned topics.<br /> <br />Talks may be given in English or
German, and should not exceed 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes for
discussion). After the Symposium, presenters will be invited to submit
a manuscript version of their talk for online publication in
JournaLIPP <a href="http://lipp.ub.lmu.de/"
target="_blank">http://lipp.ub.lmu.de/</a> (after review of the
paper).<br /> <br />Please send your abstract (in English or German,
maximum 400 words) as a Word and PDF file to
symposium2014@lipp.uni-muenchen.de by April 26th at the latest.<br />
<br />In your abstract, please do not reveal anything that could
indicate the author’s identity, but provide the following
information in a separate file or in your e-mail:<br />1. Title of
