/><p> Esta obra continúa otro libro del autor publicado hace siete
años ("The neural basis of language", München, Lincom), en el que se
abordaba la estructura del cerebro y en especial la de las llamadas
áreas lingüísticas. En el presente trabajo se analiza el
funcionamiento del cerebro en relación con la conducta verbal. Frente
a otros planteamientos actuales en neurolingüística, "Los mecanismos
neuronales el lenguaje" se caracteriza por: a) Diferenciar
cuidadosamente entre el sustrato de la conducta lingüística y el
sustrato de la conciencia lingüística; b) Dar cuenta de los últimos
descubrimientos neurológicos que pueden arrojar alguna luz sobre la
neurolingüística; c) Abordar el problema de las redes léxicas y el
de los automatismos sintácticos por separado investigando el
fundamento neurológico de cada uno, d) Insertar la conducta nerviosa
que sustenta el lenguaje en el marco más amplio de otros
comportamientos mentales como son los perceptivos, los cognitivos y
