/><p> Este libro parte de la estrecha relación existente entre la
materialidad del componente fónico de la lengua, por una parte, y la
métrica y rima de los textos poéticos, de otra. A través de un
minucioso estudio de la producción poética castellana medieval, se
llega a la conclusión de que los poetas, que en todo tiempo han
dirigido su esfuerzo a descubrir y utilizar las inagotables
posibilidades de la lengua en las creaciones de la palabra organizada
ritmicamente, han utilizado el canon estético del habla cortesana
como marco para sus composiciones. Así, frente a la tesis defensora
del anisosilabismo como tendencia métrica en la poesía castellana
medieval, se constata que era más bien la composición versal
isosilábica la que, de manera general, impregnaba el ideal poético
cortesano. La conjunción integral de fonología evolutiva y métrica,
disciplinas que aquí se aplican con rigurosa actualización de
método, permite reconstruir con detalle procesos de apertura y cierre
en el estándar oral fónico castellano en época medieval, carente de
referencias codificadoras sólidas. Con ello, el libro se convierte en
guía actualizada para el castellano medieval, tanto para los
estudiosos de la lengua como de la literatura castellana e
