[Lexicog] RE: Kirrkirr and Shoebox/Toolbox

Dear All,

Does anyone know of a script or cc table whereby I can change the standard
format markers (MDF) in my dictionary to OLIF format for use in Kirrkirr?
Also, has anybody developed an XLT (stylesheet...or whatever you call an XLT
bit) that displays OLIF in a way compatible with Kirrkirr? Thanks much for
considering my question.

Ken

Dear Christopher, et al,

I JUST succeeded in installing the latest version of Sun Java Runtime
Environment. I uninstalled and reinstalled Kirrkirr, and now everything
works fine. Now it is a matter of converting my Toolbox data into the
proper XML format, etc, etc.

Hi Ken,

I'd encourage you to try again, by downloading the whole package (which
includes a Sun Java Virtual Machine), or else to separately install a
current Sun JVM. Things should work then.

In more detail (which most people might want to skip!): I admit that
I've never tried to run Kirrkirr using MS Java. I probably should try
that. I don't know a reason why it shouldn't work, but as you may be
aware there was for a long time a rancorous situation over Sun being
unhappy with incompatibilities introduced into Microsoft JVMs. I'm not
quite sure to what extent those issues are now resolved. At any rate,
this unfriendly error message is coming from the InstallAnywhere
launcher (which we use to package Kirrkirr as an application) failing to
launch, because it's not finding the standard Java GUI classes (in
particular, JPanel) -- which suggests some fairly fundamental problem
with the Java installation and/or InstallAnywhere being able to work
with it. At the point at which this error is occurring, the Kirrkirr
program, sensu stricto, hasn't actually started running....

Best,

Chris.
