[Lexicog] audio recording

One further consideration regarding using an MP3 recorder is that
unless things have changed, few if any of them have input level
meters. This makes it nearly impossible to set input gain properly.
The MP3 recorders that I am familiar with are really intended for
playing music. The recording capability seems to be intended for letting
kids play around, not for serious recording. I tried using a machine
with no input level meter (though it was one that would record
straight PCM as well as MP3) and found that in order to avoid clipping
my recordings were rather low in volume.
