The Dictionary of Terms of the Natural Stone and Allied Industries
(Alcaraz Varo, E.; Hughes, B; Mateo Martínez, J; Vargas Sierra, C. y
Gómez González-Jover, A.) is the first in the series of Dictionaries
of Industrial terms published by Editorial Ariel
(http://www.ariel.es/obras.asp?CODIGO=936020). It is designed to
cover the specialist terminology in use in the natural stone and
associated industries, such as the quarrying and building sectors,
including secondary and building materials and machine parts and
processes.
The dictionary contains an English-Spanish and a Spanish-English
section, each with close to 12.000 lexical items. Most of the
entries consist of four
elements: (a) the translation of the item listed; (b) an explanation
in the form of a brief comment intended to clarify the sense, use
and range of the term; (c) a short example or illustration providing
a contextual setting for the meaning given; and (d) a set of
reciprocally arranged cross-references to help to refine the
definition of the term by directing attention to others of related
meaning. The overall aim is to enable the user to pinpoint the
meaning of each of the items listed as precisely as possible by
combining these four parameters.
