Another source of references on noun classification of all types, including
numeral classifiers, is:

Aikhenvald, Alexandra Y. (2003) Classifiers: A Typology of Noun
Classification Devices. Oxford University Press, Studies in Typology
and Linguistic Theory.

Some languages have multiple subsystems. Carrier seems to be a contender
for the championship in this respect, with 12 classificatory systems
of which 8 are distinct. There is a five-category system for numbers and
quantifiers. There is also a system, with five categories in one dialect
and three in the other dialects, for asking "How many?". Even in the
dialect that has a five-category system for "How many?", the categories
are incommensurable with those of the number/quantifier system.
