Witness all the Western vampire bat jokes.

  The negative associations of bats are not traditional among
  the Carrier. The one dialect that has "devil bird", with one
  component borrowed from French, is the dialect that has been
  subject to the most intensive colonial influence. The term
  surely reflects a European attitude toward bats.
