Thanks to Joseph for clarifying the difference in pronunciation within
Jamaican. I was referring strictly to the acrolectal varieties, which
is what would compare directly with Scots and upper Midwestern US speech.
I would be curious as to the origin of the unglided [e:] and [o:] in
Jamaican English, since unlike Minnesota and North Dakota, one cannnot
posit an underlying Scandinavian substratum.
