Dear Colleagues,

 

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the 1st International Conference on Language and Healthcare organized by the Valencian Community Interuniversity Institute of Modern Applied Languages will be held on 24 -26 October 2007 at the University of Alicante. The main topic of the conference is the study of language in the context of health sciences and healthcare: interdisciplinary perspectives. Contributions in the seven topic areas of the conference are welcomed.  

 

2.       TOPIC AREAS

 

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this conference, dedicated to  the study of language in the context of health sciences and healthcare, participants’ contributions will be classified in accordance with the seven areas of research in which  language and health sciences most frequently interact. The seven topic areas of this conference based on these areas of research are listed below together with the provisional sub-topics: 

1.       The language of health science 

2.       The language of pharmaceutical science

3.       Medical language and communication:

4.       Language as medical strategy

5.       Language and law

6.       Language pathologies

7.       Medical translation and interpreting

 

DEADLINES FOR REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS 

The deadline for submitting abstracts is 30 May 2007. 

The list of accepted papers will be published on the conference web page by 15 June. 

Registration fees should not be paid until confirmation is received that the paper has been accepted. Up to 30 September, registration fees may be paid into the conference bank account. After this date, the registration fee for paper presenters will be €175.  

 

Forthcoming circulars will provide information on presentations, accommodation and other matters of interest.
