[Lexicog] mis = cat

Cats in German can be named "Musch(i)" which sounds similar to English
"puss(y)".

Mizzi, another cat name is close to "mis". The latter seems to me a pure
coincidence.

Mark that these are names for cats in German, not other words for cats.

Those who love cats can refer to their pet cat as "Miezekatze". Sounds like
"miscat".

No etymological connection intended.

Bill, it's even in Cheyenne where the word for 'cat' is "poeso". Cheyennes
did have some interactions with S.W. tribes, and half of the Cheyennes still
live in Okla. Poeso replaced an older word, ka'enehotame which literally
meant 'short-nosed dog' (but the 'dog' is more like 'domesticated animal'
when one does historical and semantic analysis of that noun).

Once you get into North America north of the Southwest, you get
words for "cat" that seem to be based on "puss(y)", with /m/ instead of
/b/ or /p/ in some languages. Up in the Northwest, where labials are
scarce, some languages have forms like /du:s/.
