[Lexicog] Dictionaries on Historical Principles

It means that the definitions, spellings, etc. in the dictionary are based on dated, documented citations illustrating the word's usage over time.  Inclusion of archaic and obsolete words and senses is also characteristic of dictionaries on historical principles.

I give.  What does it mean for a dictionary to be done on "historical
principles"?  That it has etymologies?  That it gives archaic and/or
