In the first part of Ron's post, he had written<font color="navy"

The
domain ‘Leave’ is one such: ‘Go away! Get! Get out of here! Beat
it!’ The domain ‘Stop’ likewise has imperatives such as ‘Halt!’
We can use ‘leave’ and ‘stop’ in the imperative, just
as most words can be used in the imperative. But these examples are not
normal
imperatives. We could debate whether ‘Get!’ is merely an example of
usage or requires special handling. (I can’t think of a declarative
sentence
using ‘get’ in the sense ‘leave a place’.

Whether it's pronounced 'get' or 'git', I think the same verb is being
used in "Git!" and "I told him to git". I'm not sure I can say "I told
him to get!", but I'm equally unsure of "Get!" used alone as an
imperative.

As to whether it's related to "get", it clearly is, for me, if only
from the synonymy/dialectal alternation between "Get/git out of here!",
"Get/git going!", "Get/git your rear in gear, make like a tree and
leaf, make like a dirty rug and beat it", etc.
Fascinating! My dad's from TN, so I grew up visiting the south a lot.
In reading this, for the very first time in my life I realized that
'git' and 'get' are doubtless etymologically related. For me, 'git'
and 'get' are utterly separate lexical items, and 'I told him to
get', is simply an uninterpretable sentence fragment.

I am presently undergoing lexicon re-organization <ooo, ow>.

and 'Get out of here!' can possibly be interpreted as literal. 'Beat it!' is
a more clear example of an idiom. But all of these expressions have
something in common: they are the normal ways in which someone tells someone
to leave (especially when one is angry).
