Maybe they did approach Collins too. All I ever heard about was the
attempt by Google to have the verb google spelt Google, with a capital
G. By G/googling (!), however, I find more on the subject:

That is interesting that Google have to keep trying to protect their
name in order to keep their Trademark branding rights. But it is ironic
that you can become so famous you die of genericide (not in Collins
