I guess if it is in your Bible it must be right. However, in my Bible
(NIV) it has "the fire died down". Since "the fire died out" and "the
fire died down" do not mean the same thing someone has mistranslated
here. Unless the NIV translators felt they couldn't use "the fire died
out" because it is not the way to say it ??<br>

I would still prefer "the fire went out" to "the fire died out". The
latter doesn't sound right to me.<br>

Incandescent lighting can die out too, and perhaps the loss of light is
more in focus than the lessening/cessation of heat. The fire has not
died out while coals are still glowing, though it might have gone out.<br>
<br>
For me “go out” is also perfectly normal, and it has a good many more
ghits. It more easily refers to a sudden extinguishing of a flame; “die
out” requires/expects that the flame cease without clear or immediate
external causation, and thus usually will be an observably gradual
process.<br>
