translation) and Goethe, for Italians </div>

for Russians Karamzin, Pushkin and Griboedov, for Jews

- original Hebrew Bible and Ch. N. Bialik, for Yiddish

Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav (1849-1921), the "Slovak national poet",
was apparently aspiring for a similar role of national language
inventor. I must, however, say that he has not been very successful
in his efforts: the vast majority of his lexical innovations did not
survive, and most of his poetry is rather difficult to comprehend
for today's readers ;-)<br>
