Project title: Morphological Processing, POS-Tagging, Parsing and Generation
of Unrestricted Arabic Text.

Job Category: Research Student Internship (6 months).

Location: Dublin City University, School of Computing, Dublin 9, Ireland.

The National Centre for Language Technology (NCLT) invites applications from
PhD research students or MSc research students to join the NCLT/CNGL
research team in the context of the Arabic Parsing project funded by
Enterprise Ireland. The objectives of this project are to provide an
integrated package consisting of combined morphological analysis and
POS-tagging for Arabic raw text and input such information to parsers
capable of exploiting this data. This project involves a considerable amount
of research and technology infrastructure building. 

The internship aims to improve (treebank-based) parsing systems by means of
statistical methods or machine learning tools/techniques and investigates
related tasks such as POS tagging, morphological analysis, etc. The main
challenge is parsing unrestricted Arabic text.

Experience in Natural Language Processing is required. Applicants should
have a good grounding in Statistical NLP, Statistical Parsing, Machine
Learning, and a good knowledge of Arabic Grammar would be ideal. 

The internship will be for a max. of 6 months (February – July 2010), with
an expected salary of €302 weekly.
