The Department of Linguistics of the University at Buffalo
(http://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/linguistics.html) invites
applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor (10-month)
position with a start date of August 2018. The visiting faculty member
will be expected to teach courses in Computational Linguistics and
participate in the supervision of student research.

We anticipate conducting a search for a tenure-track position in this
area next year with a start date of August 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

● Teach two courses per semester, graduate or undergraduate, in any or
all of the following areas (including the possibility of self-designed
courses): Computational Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics,
Computational/Experimental Psycholinguistics, Cognitive Science, and
NLP;

● Advise students in the Computational Linguistics program, a joint
program between the Department of Linguistics and the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering.

The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo has a
tradition of research on diverse languages and approaches to
linguistics, with a strong focus on syntactic and semantic typology,
construction-based grammar, psycholinguistics, and linguistic
fieldwork. The ideal candidate will have research interests that
complement those of members from the Departments of Linguistics,
Computer Science and Engineering, Psychology, or Communicative
Disorder Sciences. The university provides access to supercomputing
infrastructure via the Center for Computational Research.

Minimum Qualifications:
● PhD in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, Linguistics, or
an allied field of the language sciences (in hand prior to
appointment).

● Demonstrated research in current approaches to Computational Linguistics.
