student reference texts for SL A Research-suggestions?

Hi All,

Could some of you suggest reference texts you think would be useful for students in an SLA research class? The students are masters level at the end of their coursework and doctoral level at the beginning of their coursework.

l. A dictionary of applied linguistics that's up to date with SLA terms

2. An accessible reference for syntax which is open to different linguistic perspectives
