New book on Languages of Instruction for African Emancipation
    (edited by B Brock-Utne & RK Hopson)

Colleagues,

Please note the attachment recently published book which includes edited
collection of case studies from seven African countries focusing on the
role of language of instruction and educational language policy in the
postcolonial contexts of:  Tanzania, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa,
Botswana, Guinea-Conakry, and Nigeria.  Covering the countries in what are
known as francophone, lusophone, and anglophone-speaking, the book
addresses and explores common myths about languages of instruction in the
selected cases, bringing new/young African scholars alongside
well-established authors in the field.  The volume has been put together
especially with postgraduate students, teachers, and educational
policymakers in Africa in mind.  It should also be of interest to donors
to education in Africa, local and international NGOs working in Africa, as
well as students of African education and African languages both on the
African continent and abroad.
