The 2006 UC LMRI Conference will focus on English Learners and Higher Education.

For English learners to achieve parity with other students, they must have greater
access to and success in higher education. Yet English learners are less likely to
graduate from high school, attend college, and complete a four-year degree than
other students. This year's conference will focus on English learners and higher
education. The conference will also feature presentations on other topics
concerning English learners.

Session topics will include:

 * Improving Access to Higher Education for Language Minority Students
 * Literacy Development of Young English Learners
 * Assessment and Development of English Language Learners
 * Improving the Academic Performance of English Learners in Higher Education
 * Preparing Teachers of English Language Learners
 * Understanding Persistence of English Learners in Higher Education
 * Five-Year Study of Proposition 227: What Was Learned and What Wasn't (Featuring
Panel Members: Robert Linquanti, West Ed; Patricia Gandara, UC Davis; and Kellie
    Rolstad, Arizona State University)
